The Pain of Poor Shooting – Racers Fall at APSU

The Murray State Racers played the Austin Peay Governors in their new arena in Clarksville.
The Murray State Racers dropped a 53-49 loss to the Austin Peay Governors in their first visit to the new F&M Bank Arena in Clarksville.
Brian Moore, Jr., led the Racers with 12 points, while Nick Ellington added 11 on 5-of-7 shooting.
After falling behind by seven points at the start of the second half, the Racers got hot on back-to-back threes from Quincy Anderson and an Ellington rebound dunk for a 42-39 lead at 8:00. Austin Peay answered with a three and the game was tied 42-42 with 7:33 remaining. The Govs hit the Racers with a 10-0 run for a 49-42 lead with 4:08 left. Moore's drive with 39 seconds left on the clock cut the APSU lead to 51-49, bit a pair of free throws sealed the win for APSU.
In the first half, the Racers hit five 3-point shots, but still only led 17-16 at the 8:40 mark on a 3-pointer by Shawn Walker. MSU went in front 26-23 at 2:06, but Demarcus Sharp's buzzer shot put the Govs ahead 28-26 the halftime intermission.

- The Battle of the Border was played for the 137th time between the Racers and Governors.
- The win for APSU snapped the Racers three-game win streak since APSU's 74-70 win in Clarksville in 2021.
- MSU has won 16 of the 21 meetings since 2013.
- JaCobi Wood scored five points today and has 990 for his career and is closing on becoming a member of the 1000-point club.
- MSU was No. 30 in in NCAA DI for fewest turnovers per game at 9.9 and had only 10 today.
- MSU has used the same starters in the first eight games: Wood, Moore, Perry, Walker, Ellington.
- Wood, Moore and Perry will made their 22nd straight start together at APSU.
- Wood and Perry each have started all 40 games they've played at MSU.
- The Racers head to Starkville Wednesday for their 10th meeting with the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
- Murray State played the Bulldogs in 2007 in a 78-61 loss under Coach Billy Kennedy.
