Panthers limit MSU to one run over 14 innings

The Murray State softball team was swept in a doubleheader by UNI Friday, as the Racers opened Missouri Valley Conference play at Racer Field in Murray, Kentucky. The Racers fell to the Panthers, 4-1, in the opener and were then shutout in the finale, 3-0.

The Murray State softball team was swept in a doubleheader by UNI Friday, as the Racers opened Missouri Valley Conference play at Racer Field in Murray, Kentucky. The Racers fell to the Panthers, 4-1, in the opener and were then shutout in the finale, 3-0.

- Despite scattering seven hits across both games Friday, in the end the Racers had just one run to show for it. The Panther pitching staff struck out a combined 23 batters in the doubleheaders and limited MSU to just one hit in game two.
- Three different Racers pitchers took part in the shutout win with Ava Ozment starting the game by allowing no runs on three hits with a strikeout and a walk. Jenna Veber (9-2) earned the win for the Racers by allowing no runs on no hits over 2.1 innings of work, while Hannah James also allowed no runs on no hits over the final frame to grab her third save of the season.
- Bailey Broemmer went 2-for-3 in game one with Murray State's lone RBI, a fourth-inning single that scored Lilly Fischer. Lindsey Carroll got the lone Racer hit in game two, a single in the Racers' second at-bat of the game.
- Hannah James took the loss for Murray State in both games Friday, despite striking out seven in game one and four in game two. Bre Haislip pitched the last 4.2 innings of the second game and allowed no runs on just four hits with seven strikeouts and only one walk.
Murray State will close out its first-ever Missouri Valley Conference series against UNI Saturday at Racer Field at 2 p.m.
