Vernon Tosses Gem as Racers Move to 2-0 in MVC Tournament

Murray State defeated Missouri State 6-1 at the MVC Baseball Championships
Behind seven shutout innings from Cade Vernon, Murray State baseball defeated Missouri State 6-1 in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament on Wednesday night at Bob Warn Field in Terre Haute, Indiana.
Vernon put together one of the most impressive outings all season for Racers as he tossed 7.0 scoreless innings while allowing just three hits and striking out eight against one of the most potent offenses in the MVC. Relief pitcher Allen Roulette helped finish the job on the mound as he shined in 2.0 innings pitched while allowing one run while striking out three Bears.
At the plate, All-MVC Second Team first baseman Brennan McCullough led the way with three hits including a mammoth solo home run in the ninth inning for one of the deepest blasts of the season for MSU. McCullough would finish the night with two RBIs and two runs scored while Riley Hawthorne added a pair of hits and a pair of RBIs.
All-Conference shortstop Drew Vogel roped an RBI double while All-Conference right fielder Dustin Mercer picked up his third triple of the season.

The Racers now set their sights on the fourth-seeded Evansville Purple Aces for a Thursday matchup at 6:30 p.m. CT in Terre Haute.
