GAME DAY STORYLINES

The Racers are the new kids on the block as they become the first new member of the MVFC since North Dakota joined the league in 2020.
With 12 teams in the MVFC, all teams will not meet every season. In 2023, the Racers do not meet Northern Iowa, South Dakota State and Western Illinois.
Five Racers earned preseason All-Missouri Valley Football Conference honors from by Phil Steele Magazine. Offensive linemen DJ Jones and Jacob Frye earned second-team and fourth-team honors, respectively, while fellow offensive playmaker Taylor Shields also earned a fourth-team nod. On the defensive side, Cade Shupperd picked up third-team honors and Cody Goatley was named to the fourth team.
Two Racers were selected to the preseason All-Missouri Valley Football Conference teams. Offensive lineman Jacob Frye and wide receiver Taylor Shields each picked up preseason All-MVFC honorable mention honors.
The Racers were picked No. 11 in the MVFC Preseason Poll. South Dakota State and North Dakota State were No. 1 & No. 2.
The game with the Presbyterian Blue Hose marks the first meeting between the two in any team sport.
The Racers are playing their 51st season in Roy Stewart Stadium in 2023.
The Racers are 170-98-2 (.633) all-time at Stewart Stadium.
Named for legend Coach Roy Stewart who led the football program from 1932-40, 1942 and 1944-45.
In 12 seasons, Stewart shares MSU's all-time mark for wins with 60. Bill Fergerson (1967-77) also won 60 games.
Stewart also served as MSU Athletic Director from 1944-66.
