The Murray State women's soccer team will travel to Martin, Tennessee, for a matchup against former-OVC opponent UT Martin on Sunday, September 3 at 4 p.m.
Sunday's match will be the second time the two programs meet on the pitch since MSU transitioned to the Missouri Valley Conference. Before drawing with the Skyhawks in last season's match, the Racers have won three of the four matches prior and lead the all-time series 16-6-4.
Sophomore Mary Hardy enters the match as the team's leader in goals, points, shots and shots on goal despite not taking a shot in the previous match at Lindenwood. She played the full 90 minutes for the first time this season against the Lions.
Goalie Jenna Villacres enters the match with 344 minutes in-goal and 13 saves in five appearances. Morgan Bodker and Audrey Henry are the only two Racers to not be subbed off the pitch this season.
Scouting Report
The Skyhawks enter Sunday's match with a 2-2 record after falling to Kentucky, 4-0, in Lexington. Kentucky's leading scorer, Jordyn Rhodes, netted her fifth goal of the season against UTM in the fourth minute of the game. The Skyhawks would hold the Wildcats without scoring again until the second half, when Taya Hjorth would score her first goal of the season in the 56th minute. Mia Bookhard and Katelyn Fishnick would also net their first goals of the season just six minutes apart in the 72nd minute and 78th minute. Kentucky held UTM to just two shots.
Makayla Robinson enters as the Skyhawks' leading scorer with two of the team's four goals. She also leads the team in points (4) and shots on goal percentage (0.667). Izzy Patterson has one goal on the year and leads the team in shots taken (7).
The Skyhawks ended the 2022 season as the No.7-seed in the Ohio Valley Conference tournament. After a first-round win against Little Rock, UTM fell to Morehead State in penalty kicks, 4-3, after both teams were scoreless through 90 minutes plus three overtime periods.
