Racers Can’t Overcome Late UNI Run

The Murray State Racers had a poor shooting day in UNI’s first visit to the CFSB Center
The Murray State Racers saw a late lead slip away Sunday in a 70-60 loss in Northern Iowa's first visit to the CFSB Center in Murray, Kentucky.
The Racers (7-10) saw their 4-game winning streak halted as they fell to 4-2 in the Missouri Valley Conference ahead of their Wednesday game in Chicago against the UIC Flames.
Nick Ellington led the Racers with 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting with five rebounds and three blocked shots, while Alden Applewhite added 13 points and seven rebounds. JaCobi Wood added 10 points.
Leading 27-25 at the intermission, the Racers held a seven-point advantage at 49-42 on Wood's 3-pointer with 7:47 left to play. UNI rallied and hit the Racers with a run to tie the game for a fifth time 49-49 with 5:32 left. The Racers never led the rest of the way as the run for UNI eventually went to a 9-point lead with 2:31 remaining at 62-53.

- Another big crowd watched the game today of 5,507. The Racers lead The Valley in attendance at 5,059 in nine games this season.
- Brian Moore, Jr. was honored before the game for reaching the 1500-career mark in scoring between Murray State and NE Oklahoma JC.
- MSU is at UIC Wednesday, the Racers will be looking for their third-straight road win.
- The Racers won the first meeting at home (Jan. 2) 85-73.
- The game Wednesday at Credit Union 1 Arena, MSU's first visit since they played a BracketBuster return game in 2006 under coach Billy Kennedy.
- The Racers return the game to UNI on Feb. 3 in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
- Quincy Anderson's free throw streak ended at 18 today.
- JaCobi Wood extended his free throw to 20 in a row, the longest this season for the Racers.
- Having had much success from the free throw line to this point in the season, the Racers were only 11-of-21 today for 52 percent.
- MSU is now 6-3 when leading at halftime this season.
