Racers Defeat Bears in Four Sets

Murray State defeated Missouri State 3-1 in Springfield.
The Murray State Racers (11-8, 6-4 MVC) defeated the Bears of Missouri State (8-14, 2-8 MVC) 3-1 in Springfield, Mo. on Friday night.Â
ÂThe win moves the Racers up to fourth in the Missouri Valley Conference while the Bears fall to 11th. Â
ÂThe Racers started strong in the first set, winning 25-21 and recording 18 kills on a .275 attacking percentage. The Bears fought back in the second set, taking a 25-14 win while holding the Racers to their lowest attacking percentage of the night at just .089. However, the Racers responded with a resounding win of their own in the third, 25-17. The fourth set was a back-and-forth affair, however, Murray State survived with Ella Vogel delivering the final blow in a 25-23 match-clinching win. Â
ÂVogel led the team in kills with 14 as three different Racers reached double digits in the category. Lily Burnett recorded 12 and Federica Nuccio added 11. Bailey DeMier continued to put up big numbers in the assists category with 48 and Dahlia Miller led all participants with 36 digs. Â
ÂRilynn Finley led the Bears with 17 assists, Aniya Joseph added 14, and Maddy Bushnell had 10. Morgan Sprague recorded 42 assists and 12 digs while Kate Owen led the team in digs with 20.
ÂThe Racers were out-blocked 8-7 however they recorded more kills 61-54, aces 3-1, and assists 55-50. Â
ÂThe Racers are back in action on Saturday, October 26 at 5 p.m. in Carbondale, Ill. against the Salukis of Southern Illinois.
