Racers Drop Home Afternoon Match To Bruins
10/3/2024 7:26:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Murray State put nearly a third of its shots on target.
The Racers fell to the Belmont Bruins on Thursday, 2-0, at Cutchin Field in Murray, Kentucky. Murray State took nine of their 13 total shots in the first half, placing four of them on target for the day.
MSU outplayed the Bruins in a scoreless first half, with nine first-half shots to Belmont's two and four corner kicks to Belmont's two. The Bruins also occurred four fouls to Murray State's two.
In the 65th minute, the Bruins broke the score with a header that was delivered on a free kick. Just over 20 minutes later in the 86th minute, Belmont netted their brace on an unassisted goal taken from just outside the 18-yard box.
Breece Bass and Megan Wilson both led the Racers with three shots taken apiece. Mackenzie Tucker led MSU with two of the team's shots on goal.
Murray State closes out its two-match homestand on Sunday, October 6 at 1 p.m. CT at Cutchin Field.

Head Coach Matt Lodge on the Racers' performance:
"I thought it was a tale of two halves. I thought the first half, we were good—we created enough. Second half, I think the goal totally took the wind out of our sails and we kind of—I wouldn't say gave up, but we lost a lot of attacking prowess at that point and we accepted the 1-0. Good finish for the second goal, but we're in a bit of a slug right now. Four games in a row we have not won in conference play, so we need to figure something out quick."
Â
Head Coach Matt Lodge on if any adjustments will be made before Sunday's match against Illinois State:
"I think that's something the staff are going to sit down and discuss. We don't want to make any irrational, rushed decisions. It's not panic stage—we've got a lot of soccer left to play. So we'll sit down, discuss, analyze, watch some film and make a decision there."
Â
Head Coach Matt Lodge on Isa De Santos Gomez's first start:
"Great first half. I think the first goal she misjudged it. But again—you can't put any of the blame on her for the loss. I think it's a group effort [and] we have to score goals, and right now we're failing that. [We've scored] one goal in four games."
