MSU freshman Liz Smith takes third at one of the largest cross country events in the USA

Liz Smith led the Murray State Racers to a fourth place team finish at the Live in the Lou Cross Country Classic at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky.

From Sheridan, Indiana, the freshman Smith was third in the women's 5K Blue race with a time of 18:16. The Racers also had top-40 finishes from Alyssa Moore, Autumn Egleston and Jocelyn Host.

Known as one of the largest cross country events in the nation, Live in the Lou features 17 races for elementary school kids all the way to the top of the sport in NCAA competition.

Next up for the Racers is an appearance at the Angels Mounds Invitational (Oct. 18) in Evansville, Indiana.
