Murray State defeated Belmont 3-2 in a reverse sweep to win their third straight.
The Murray State Racers (9-5, 4-1 MVC) survived the Belmont Bears (7-10, 2-3 MVC) to win in a reverse sweep Tuesday night at Racer Arena.
The Bruins came out strong in the first two sets, winning 25-19 and 25-14. Posting a kill percentage of 73 in the first two sets, Belmont was positioned to take a sweep in the decisive third set. However, no strangers to adversity, the Racers would not be denied.
The Navy & Gold stormed back to win the third set 25-16 on the back of a 9-2 run to end the set. The fourth set was a back-and-forth affair that saw Murray State emerge with a 26-24 win to take momentum into the final set.
The fifth set was close early, with the Racers leading just 6-5. However Murray State kept their foot on the gas and closed out the game on a 9-1 run to take the set and the match.
Ella Vogel once again led the team in kills with 12 with Federica Nuccio and Lily Burnett having nine and eight, respectively. Darci Metzger led the team in blocks with 5, Dahlia Miller had 16 digs, and Bailey DeMier led the team with 35 assists.
The Racers now turn their attention to a pair of road matchups against Drake on Friday, October 11 at 6 p.m. CT and UNI on October 12 at 6 p.m. CT.
