Poor Shooting Leads Racers to Loss vs Nebraska at Diamond Head Classic

The Murray State Racers began the game hitting only 1-of-16 shots on their way to a loss in Honolulu
The Murray State Racers dropped a 66-49 game Sunday to the Nebraska Cornhuskers in their first meeting since 2000, in the opening round of the 15th annual Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.
The Racers (6-5) take on Charlotte Monday night at 11:30 p.m. Central Time, after the 49ers were defeated by host Hawaii
Suffering a poor first half on offense, the Racers began the game by hitting only 1-of-16 from the field and ended the half down 34-14 to the Cornhuskers. In the first 20 minutes of play, the Racers shot 14 percent (4-of-28) overall, 3-of-15 from the 3-point line for 20 percent and 3-of-9 from the free throw line for 33 percent.
Kylen Milton led the Racers with 19 points, matching his MSU-best scoring game on 7-of-15 from the field.
The Racers did outscore Nebraska 35-32 in the second half, but never got any closer than 12 points with 3:33 remaining.

- The Racers and Cornhuskers faced off the third time after Murray State wins in 1990 and 2000.
- Today's game marked just the fifth game for the Racers against a team from the Big-10 Conference since they faced Illinois in the 2004 NCAA Tournament in Columbus.
- Other recent games include: 1999 (vs Ohio State/NCAA Tournament – Lost 72-58), 2000 (at Purdue – Lost 95-67), 2000 (at Nebraska -Won 79-71) and 2004 (vs Illinois/NCAA Tournament – Lost 72-53).
- AJ Ferguson's free throw streak of making 14 in a row ended with a miss in the first half, his run is the best for the Racers since JaCobi Wood made 21 straight in the 2023-24 season.

- Monday's game against Charlotte marks the second all-time meeting between the two.
