Racers Fall To APSU Popeyes Battle of the Border Match Play
2/10/2024 9:05:00 PM | Men's Golf
For the third-straight season, the Murray State men’s golf team met the Austin Peay Governors in the Popeyes Battle of the Border match play event
The Murray State Racers took on the Austin Peay Governors in the Popeye's Battle of the Border Match Play Saturday in Hopkinsville, Kentucky.
Hopkinsville Country Club has hosted every meeting in the Battle of the Border setting, where the Racers have won the first two meetings.
Saturday's contest was a series of six tight matches that didn't go in the Racers' favor as all of them made it to the 16th hole, leaving the Govs with a 7-1 win.
The one-day competition departs from typical stroke play events involving multiple teams. This event pits individual players against each other in match play where each hole is a single competition unto itself.
The first two meetings in 2022 and 2023, the Racers were on the winning side.
The next competition for the Racers is at the Gulf Coast Collegiate (Feb. 26-27) in New Orleans at English Turn Country Club. With the 2024 spring season underway, the Racers have six events scheduled that build toward the season-ending Missouri Valley Conference Championship (April 21-23) at The Club at Porta Cima in Sunrise Beach, Missouri.
