Racers Take Down Coyotes in Five Innings to Wrap Opening Weekend

Calista Collins post four RBIs for the Racers’ five-inning win over South Dakota.

Murray State softball ends opening weekend at the Red and Black Classic on top with a five-inning win over South Dakota, Sunday.

The Racers closed the weekend with a 2-3 record.

How it Went
The game was even until the bottom of the third inning when Adison Hicks scored a run from an error after Maddie Hobby's bunt was overthrown by South Dakota's catcher.

The Racers built their in lead in the bottom of the fourth inning after Calista Collins capitalized on loaded bases with a two RBI double that scored Summer Ray and Erin Lackey home. Collins' play was followed by Ailey Schyck who hit an RBI single to score Taylor Jackson home.

On the bottom of the fifth inning, the Hobby scored another run from a field error.

The Racers found their bases loaded and, again, Collins capitalized on the chance with a two RBI single to center field. Winning the game 8-0 for the Racers. Â

Jenna Veber earns her second win of the season with only allowing two hits through 14 batters faced.

What's next?
The Racers will head to their second tournament of the season at Chattanooga, Friday,
