Murray State Athletics has announced a significant facility enhancement to the Jan & Dick Weaver Center to modernize the space that has served as the catalyst for the record-setting academic success that the Racers have achieved over the last two years, it was announced on Thursday.
Â
Funded through the generous support of the Richard E. Weaver & Janice F. Weaver Educational Trust, Inc., this marks the first substantial progress the academic learning space has seen in nearly 30 years.
Â
"We have an extremely high standard of academic excellence within our athletic department and it is important that our facility matches those expectations," Director of Athletics Nico Yantko said. "This space plays a critical role in serving our student-athletes from recruitment through retirement. The enhancements to the Weaver Center allows us to continue to honor the incredible legacy and vision of Dick and Jan by impacting all of our Racer student-athletes."
Â
The Weaver Center, which houses the Racers' academic study areas, tutoring spaces and the Dennis Jackson Leadership Program, will be outfitted with new technology and study seating while seeing much-needed touch-ups throughout the space as part of the first phase of updates.
Â
Additionally, the project will include major upgrades to the branding throughout the facility that will showcase the academic history of Murray State as well as highlight and reinforce the five pillars of the Dennis Jackson Leadership Program: Career Readiness, Leadership & Civic Engagement, NIL Preparedness & Brand Management, Financial Literacy and Mental Health.
Â
Murray State has seen unprecedented growth around its facilities, having already begun nearly $2 million in capital projects, including the newly announced weight room renovation in Roy Stewart Stadium and the renovation of the men's basketball locker room.
Other projects that have been completed over the last 18 months include the Baseball/Softball Performance Center, upgrades to football team spaces and the new LED lights in the CFSB Center.
Â
The Racer Club plays a crucial role in helping support student-athlete scholarships, general operating budget, and facility enhancements. Investors play a critical role in funding the student-athlete experience and the competitive success of Murray State Athletics programs and student-athletes.
