Racers Fall At State Farm Arch Madness to Bears

The Murray State Racers were done in by shooting woes in their first round game in St. Louis
The Murray State Racers ended the 2023-24 season on a sour note Thursday in a 60-35 loss to the Missouri State Bears in the first round of State Farm Arch Madness at Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

The Racers finished the season 12-20 after suffering their poorest shooting game of the season when they hit just 21 percent from the field on 12-of-57.

JaCobi Wood led the Racers with 12 points, while Nick Ellington hauled in nine rebounds.

Trailing 41-21 with 12:03 left, the Racers cut the Bears lead to 11 with 8:13 remaining, but couldn't get any closer.

Game Notes
- Entering the day, the Racers were 21-21 in all games (regular season and tournament) in The Valley.
- MSU's mark in their first two seasons in the MVC is 21-22.
- The Racers are 2-2 in MVC Tournament.
- MSU was the No. 7 seed a year ago and were No. 8 today.
- 2024 marks the 48th MVC Tournament and the Enterprise Center is hosting the event for a 30th consecutive year.
- The Racers 5-of-28 shooting from the field in the first half for 18 percent was highlighted by a stretch of 12-straight misses from the field.
- MSU just couldn't get the shots to fall and were 12-of-57 for the game (.211).
- The last time MSU suffered a shooting game of 30 percent or less was a one they actually won at home 71-65 over Tennessee Tech in 2016 (01-07-16). In that game, the Racers shot only 28 percent (18-of-64) from the field.
- The 14-point first half for the Racers was their lowest first half output since scoring 18 at Eastern Kentucky in 2008.
- MSU made their first 3-pointer of the game with left-wing shot by Quincy Anderson with 9:47 remaining.
- That make means Anderson made a 3-pointer in his final 11 games as a Racer.
- Anderson ends his collegiate career with 1,519 points in 137 games (64 with MSU and 73 with Minnesota State).
- Nick Ellington and JaCobi Wood started all 32 games this season for the Racers in 2023-24.
- Wood has started all 64 games in his MSU career.
- Wood has scored 1,282 points in his career of 126 games (64 with MSU and 62 with Belmont).
- Rob Perry ends his collegiate career with 1,949 points in 138 games (64 with MSU and 74 at Stetson).
- The Racers say goodbye to seniors Rob Perry, Quincy Anderson, Shawn Walker, Jr.
- Freshman Lawrent Rice made solid contributions to the Racers in the final six games, where he played just shy of 16 minutes per game with a scoring average of seven points and was 17-of-30 (.567) from the field, 4-of-10 (.400) from the 3-point line.
- Rice dished out seven assists and had a pair of steals.
