Freshman Valeria Chaikovskaia earns MVC honors after defeating Drake opponent

Freshman Valeria Chaikovskaia earned MVC Player of the Week for the second time this season. Chaikovskaia had previously earned MVC Player of the Week after facing Jacksonville State in early March.

Last Sunday, the Racers faced preseason favorite, Drake, in a home match. At the number one spot, Chaikovskaia faced Ines Stephani, the reigning MVC Player of the Year. Chaikovskaia dropped the first set, 3-6, but bounced back quickly. She defeated Stephani in the final two sets 6-3, 6-3. Prior to Sunday's match, Stephani had only two losses this season, both coming against Power 5 opponents, Nebraska and Kansas State. The Racers defeated the Bulldogs 4-3.

This was Chaikovskaia's ninth singles win this season, tied for second in the team for most wins this season. All of her matches have been played at the number one position.
