Racers Set for Missouri Valley Conference Tournament as Top Seed

The Racers will play in the MVC Tournament this weekend for the first time as the number one seed
Murray State women's tennis is heading to Nashville, Tennessee this weekend to compete in their second Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. After going undefeated in conference play, the Racers became outright MVC Regular Season Champions. This was the first MVC title for Murray State across all sports.
The Racers secured the number one seed for the tournament, followed closely by Illinois State, who locked the number two seed. Both have earned a first round bye for the tournament. The Racers will face #4 seed Belmont after they defeated Drake in the first quarterfinal.
In the final match up of the regular season, the Racers defeated Bradley 5-2. The duo of Emma Honore/Natalie Slezakova secured their sixth win of the conference season, earning them MVC Doubles Team of the Week. Freshman Varya Alexeyeva clinched her first match win with a defeat at the number two singles flight.
Belmont faced Drake on Friday afternoon and was able to edge out the Bulldogs, winning 4-3. Missouri Valley Conference Co-Playesr of the Year, Ines Stephani and Mariia Hlahola, battled at the number one spot, with Stephani ultimately securing the first singles point for Drake. It came down to the final singles match, with Belmont's Anastasi Zholdakova dominating her third set to send the Bruins to the semi finals.
The Racers will make their debut in the Missouri Valley Conference on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Beaman Family Tennis Complex in Nashville, Tennessee.
