Racers Fall Short in Aces Battle Against Salukis

Racers softball drops game one 1-0 against Southern Illinois
In A Nutshell
Murray State softball falls 1-0 in an aces battle against Southern Illinois, Friday.
The Racers are now 10-14 in Missouri Valley Conference play and are sitting at ninth place in the conference standings with two games left in the regular season.
How it Went
The Racers and Salukis saw six scoreless innings with both team's starting pitchers, Jenna Veber and Maddia Groff, pitching complete games.
The visitors got an advantage as Jackie Lis hit a single to left center at the top of the first inning but was put out at second base as Elizabeth Warwick got on base on a fielder's choice. The Racers were able to close the top of the first with the 24th double play of the season.
Taylor Jackson got the first hit of the game for the Racers with a single to left center at the bottom of the fourth inning but was left on base.
Murray State got another hit in the sixth inning through Lily Fischer's single through middle before she advanced to second base as Adison Hicks earned a walk. They were both left on base.
The Salukis clinched the game as Lis tripled to right field and was brought home by Warwick with an RBI double.
A Defensive Outing
Veber pitched a complete game while only allowing four hits through 23 batters faced. She posted five strikeouts and allowing zero walks.
The Racers made two double plays to make it 25 for the season. They are currently tied for 20th in the NCAA Division with .50 double plays per game.
What's next?
Murray State will decide their series against Southern Illinois in a doubleheader on senior day, tomorrow.
