Racers Drop Final Regular Season Series Against Salukis

Murray State Softball drops games two and three against Salukis.
In A Nutshell
Murray State softball drops their doubleheader against Southern Illinois, Saturday. They lost the first game of the doubleheader 3-0 before dropping the regular-season finale 6-2.
The visitors sweep the series at Racer Field after winning the game 1-0 on Friday.
The Racers end their regular season with a 23-29 overall record and a 10-16 Missouri Valley Conference record. They are currently sitting at ninth as the MVC softball games resume tomorrow.
Game One
A replay of the ace's battle from game one, the Racers started Jenna Veber, while the Salukis started Maddia Groff.
After a scoreless inning, the visitors opened the scoring with an RBI sacrifice fly to fight field. Calista Collins responded with a hit for the Racers at the bottom of the second inning, but she was left on base.
Two more scoreless innings went by before Southern Illinois tripled their lead with a two-run home run.
The Racers could not make a comeback, dropping the game and the series.
Game Two
The Racers and Salukis went three scoreless innings before the visitors scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning. The runs were scored through two RBI singles and an RBI sacrifice fly to center field.
Murray State responded in the bottom of the fifth inning as Summer Ray hit her second career triple before running home on a passed ball. The Salukis kept the score at 3-1 after the fifth inning, but the Racers added another run through an RBI single by Courtney Sandy to run Lily Fischer home, who got on base on a walk.
SIU scored three runs through an error in the top of the seventh inning.
Taylor Jackson is now tied for second in the NCAA Division I with her 17th runner caught stealing.
What's next?
Murray State awaits their MVC Tournament seeding as the MVC Regular Season ends tomorrow. The MVC Tournament will be hosted at Illinois State, with the first round of games played on May 8th and the championship game on May 11th.
