Chelby Melvin Ready To Compete At USA Olympic Trials

The Murray State sophomore competes Thursday at the USA Olympic Track & Field Trials in Eugene, Oregon
Murray State's Chelby Melvin is taking her 2024 spring outdoor season into summer when she competes at the USA Olympic Track & Field Trials in Eugene, Oregon.

Melvin, a sophomore from St. Louis has a date Thursday (June 27) at approximately 6:50 p.m. PT at Hayward Field.

The multi-day classic can be seen on television/streaming all week on NBC Sports, USA Network and Peacock networks.

Melvin, has produced an amazing first season with the Racers which included earning the 400M hurdles championship at the Missouri Valley Conference Championships in May at Terre Haute, Indiana. Melvin took that momentum to the NCAA Regional in Lexington, Kentucky where she advanced to the NCAA Finals in Eugene where she was named Second Team All-America. As she kept lowering her time as the record at Murray State, Melvin has advanced her best time in six of the eight outdoor events she has competed in in 2024. She was also a part of the Racers' MVC Championships record in the 4X400m Relay.

Melvin is the first Racer to compete at the USA Olympic Trials following Murray State Hall of Famer Alexis Love, who competed in the trials in 2012 in the 100M and 200M events.

Olympic Trials Notes
- May 16 - set MSU record in 400M Hurdles of 57.57, to win MVC Championship and among the Top-20 of all NCAA East Region qualifiers.
- May 23 – set MSU record of 57.12 at NCAA Regional in Lexington, Ky.
- May 25 – advanced to NCAA Finals with another MSU record of 56.49.
- June 6 – posted a time of 57.45 at the NCAA Finals, just 1.2 seconds from qualifying for the final.
- Placed 16th and named to All-America status.
- Alexis Love was inducted into the MSU Hall of Fame in 2019.
- Competed for Racers from 2009-13.
- 2012 OVC Female Track & Field Athlete of the Year and the Athlete of the OVC Championship.
