Melvin Advances To U.S. Olympic Trials Semifinals

The sophomore is set to race for a spot in the finals on Saturday, June 29.
Sophomore Chelby Melvin advanced to the semifinal round of the 400-meter hurdles at the United States Olympic Track & Field trials on Thursday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
"Making the semis of the Olympic trials is an amazing achievement for Chelby," head coach Adam Kiesler said. "She continues to amaze us every time she steps on the track."
Melvin, a native of St. Louis, Missouri, saw an automatic qualification after finishing fifth in her heat with a time of 56.97. Going into the semifinals, she sits among the top 20 of qualifying athletes and was one of six competitors to represent a university at the mid-major level.
"We are excited about Saturday and what she can do," Kielser added. "We appreciate all the messages from people all over the country."
The semifinal round takes place at Hayward Field on Saturday, June 29 with the start time set tentatively for 7:41 p.m. CT. The race is to be televised on NBC, Peacock, the NBC Sports website and NBC Sports app.
