The sophomore set a school record in the 400-meter hurdles for the seventh time this year.
Chelby Melvin represented the Murray State Racers well this summer, competing in the semifinal round of the 400-meter hurdles at the U.S. Olympic Trials at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon on Saturday.
"Extremely proud of Chelby for what she accomplished here and the entire season," head coach Adam Kiesler said. "To finish the season with a personal best is pretty special."
The sophomore broke a school record for the seventh time in nine races since the start of the outdoor season. She turned in a time of 56.31 and finished 16th among 27 semifinalists.
Melvin is the first Racer since 2012 to compete at the U.S. Olympic Trials, when Murray State Hall of Famer Alexis Love competed in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes.
"As a coach, it's also great to see that she is ready for more," Kiesler added. "She had a taste of this and now she is asking what's next. We look forward to the future but we will definitely remember this for a long time."
The St. Louis native ends her first season as a Racer a Missouri Valley Conference champion, a second team All-American and a U.S. Olympic Trials semifinalist.
