Racers Close Out Week With Sunday Afternoon Match At Arkansas State
8/24/2024 11:09:00 AM | Women's Soccer
Murray State returns to Jonesboro, Arkansas for the first time in 10 years.
The Racers aim to get back in the win column when they face the Arkansas State Red Wolves on Sunday, August 25 at 1 p.m. CT at the A-State Soccer Park in Jonesboro, Ark.
Sunday's match marks the first time the two programs take the pitch together since 2019, when the Racers topped the Red Wolves 3-1 at home, and for the first time in Jonesboro since the 2015 season.
The Racers are 6-6-1 against Arkansas State since 2000 and are 2-3 when playing on the Red Wolves' home turf, yet have taken two of the last three from ASU in Jonesboro.
"[We're] looking to bounce back from Thursday's match [against #19 Xavier]," head coach Matt Lodge said. "Arkansas State are a good team who are off to winning ways. They didn't play Thursday, so they'll be fresh and prepared for us."
Arkansas State enters Sunday's matchup with a 2-0 record and have yet to concede a goal through 180 minutes of play this season. Keelyn Peacock has been the centerpiece of the Red Wolves' offense, leading her squad with two goals, four total points, 10 shots with four of them in frame. Her two goals have already surpassed her previous season's total of just one.
Murray State is set to pursue a second-straight road win after defeating Southeast Missouri in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on August 15. In the Racers' previous match against #19 Xavier, Sydney Etter netted her first goal of the year on Breece Bass' first collegiate assist. Griselda Revolorio set a new career high for the second time this year with 12 saves on Thursday after previously recording a then-best nine saves in the season opener at Cincinnati.
"We must continue our scoring ways and put them under pressure right from the get go," Lodge added. "I'm excited to see how we react from the heartbreaker against Xavier."
