Murray State was unable to capitalize off of a 2-1 lead.
Murray State Volleyball (0-3) lost to the Ragin Cajuns of Louisiana-Lafayette (1-1) 3-2 on Saturday, August 31 in their final contest of the Sawyer Camillo Memorial Volleyball Classic.
Every set was a battle as the Cajuns escaped with a 29-27 win in the first before MSU raced back to take a 25-18 win in the second. The Navy and Gold kept their foot on the gas in the third winning 25-20.
Louisiana responded in the fourth, holding off a Racers' rally to win 25-18, setting up an intense fifth set. The Cajuns held on in the fifth to win 15-9 and take the game.
Ella Vogel continued a productive weekend, totaling 27.5 with 24 kills and 12 digs. The Racers were out-blocked 17-6 and were edged out in attacking percentage 57% to 56%.
"I had seen a few good things this past weekend," said head coach David Schwepker. "But to be honest, what I had seen was nothing like what I see in practice. The teams we played this past weekend were great, and my team seems to get scared and back down. If this doesn't change, it will be a long season."
The Racers will look to reverse their fortunes next weekend as they play at the Elon Phoenix Classic in Elon, North Carolina. Their first matchup is against North Carolina Central at 10 a.m. CT on Friday, September 6.
