The Racers are set to host the UIC Flames for their Missouri Valley Conference home opener on Thursday, September 26 at 3 p.m. CT at Cutchin Field in Murray, Kentucky.
Thursday's contest marks just the fourth all-time meeting between the two programs in the last three seasons. In 2022 the Racers drew with the Flames in their inaugural MVC matchup, and in 2023 the Racers fell to UIC on the road, 1-0, in the regular season.
In the quarterfinal round of the MVC tournament, the Racers and Flames drew yet again with the Flames advancing to the semifinals after winning the penalty kick shootout 4-3.
UIC enters the match with a 2-7 record under head coach David Nikolic, who is in his fourth season at the helm of the Flames' women's soccer program. Nikolic has a career record of 15-33-14 and recorded a career-high six-win season in 2023 with UIC.
Riley Collett leads the Flames as the team's only multi-goal scorer, having netted two of UIC's six goals thus far this season and holds one of UIC's two game-winners. Madison Ferris has played a key role in UIC's starting 11, being the only player on the team to have played full time in all nine matches.
The Racers enter Thursday's match after starting off conference play with a scoreless draw at Evansville on Sunday. Mary Hardy's four goals this season lead Murray State and are tied for the second-most in the MVC. With head coach Matt Lodge sitting at 59 career wins, he is just one shy of tying the program record of 60 wins that was set by Beth Acreman in 2013.
