Vogel Named Elon Phoenix Classic MVP

Following an undefeated weekend at the Elon Phoenix Classic that saw the Racers win nine of their last ten sets, three different Racers received recognition from the tournament. Â
ÂOutside hitter Ella Vogel was named MVP following a dominant weekend that saw her record double-digit kills in each match. The Cape Girardeau, Mo. native increased her season kills total to 105, second most in the MVC. The junior also finished with 12 total blocks on the weekend, including a career-high of six against N.C. Central on Friday, September 6. Â
ÂFederica Nuccio was named to the All-Tournament team after a productive weekend of her own. The junior caught fire in the Racers' final game of the tournament, recording a season-high 19 kills against UNC Greensboro. The Frossasco, Italy native also recorded 27 digs on the weekend. Â
ÂSetter Bailey DeMier was also recognized as a member of the All-Tournamet team after she continued her consistent start to the season. The senior recorded season highs with 47 assists and 8.5 points against NC Central. She increased her season assist total to 230, third most in the MVC and recorded nine digs in each game of the weekend.
"We are incredibly proud of Ella, Fede, and Bailey for being named to the All-Tournament Team," said head coach David Schwepker. "Their dedication, skill, and teamwork were instrumental in our success, and they truly exemplify what it means to be a part of this team. Their performance on the court was nothing short of outstanding, and they have set a high standard for us all."
Murray State will be back in action next weekend at the SIUE Tournament in Edwardsville, Ill starting on Friday, September 13. Â
