Young Picks Up USBWA National Player of the Week Honors

Murray State women's basketball player Katelyn Young earned national honors from the Basketball Writers Association
The Racers all-time leading scorer, Katelyn Young, was named U.S. Basketball Writers Association National Player of the Week as she was a dominant force this week in each of Murray State's wins over Indiana State and Evansville. Young averaged 29 points and eight rebounds while shooting 73 percent from the field in just 26 minutes per game.
The graduate student went a perfect 13-13 from the free throw line and dished out five assists on the week. The Oakwood, Illinois native moved into the top 50 all-time in Division I scoring in the win over the Purple Aces and ranks as the active career leading in scoring. Young has led the Racers to an 8-1 record in the Missouri Valley Conference as MSU is tied with Belmont for first place.Â
For the season, Young is averaging 19.3 points and 6.2 rebounds.
The Racers travel to Belmont on Saturday in a battle among the top two teams in the MVC.
