Racers Produce Big Plays But Fall to No. 2 SDSU

The Murray State Racers battled the No. 2 South Dakota State Jackrabbits to a 35-14 defeat Saturday at Roy Stewart Stadium in Murray, Kentucky.

The Racers (0-7,) fell to 0-3 in the Missouri Valley Football Conference as they travel to Youngstown State in Ohio next Saturday (Oct. 25) in a 1 p.m. kickoff.

On a day when the Racers outgained the Jackrabbits 269-438 in total yards, Murray State stayed with the favored SDSU team to a 7-7 halftime score.

The Racers scored on their longest pass play of the season with 3:03 left in the first quarter when Jim Ogle hit Darius Cannon on a 65-yard touchdown pass.

SDSU took the lead for good with 13:49 left in the third quarter, but the Racers scored again with 12:10 left on a 60-yard pass play to Jordan Washington.

Game Notes

Jim Ogle was 20-of-32 passing for 327 yards and two touchdowns.
Ogle's two touchdown pass plays to Cannon (65yds) and to Washington (60yds) were the first pass plays of 60 or more yards for the Racers since 2024 when Jayden Johannsen hit Kade Kneely for a 62-yard pass against Illinois State (10-19-24).
Two pass plays in the same game of 60 or more yards is also rare, because the last time the Racers did this was in 2016 at home against Southeast Missouri When KD Humphries hit Demetric Johnson for 67 yards and another of the same distance for a touchdown to Mareio McGraw.
In 2010 at home against Tennessee State Casey Brockman hit Dexter Barnett for a pass play of 65-yards and another of 68 yards to Marcus Harris that went for a touchdown. (11-20-10).
In the area of big plays (pass completions of 20 yards or more) Ogle had four including the two passes that went 60 yards.
Ogle also had a pair of 30-yard completions to Tyrell Campbell on the opening drive of the game and one for 31 yards to Cannon in the first drive of the second half.
Dylan Rowsey made his first interception as a Racer just before halftime and had 10 tackles on the day.
Rowsey's interception was the first for the Racers this season in MVFC games, the Racers now have four picks on the season.
Conllee Crossno led the Racers with 12 tackles.
Through three MVFC games, the Racers are fifth in the league in total offense with 407 yards per game.
Ogle is third in the MVFC with 13.4 average per completion and he's fourth in the league with 59 pass completions total.
