Chicago, Ill. – Murray State earned its first win over UIC in program history Friday night, defeating the Flames 2-1 behind a two-goal performance from Ava Roberson. The win marked Murray State's third straight victory and moved the Racers to T-3 in the MVC standings.
After conceding a goal in the 12th minute, Roberson evened the match with her first of the night, assisted by Mary Hardy and Lia Manuel.
Entering the second half tied 1-1, head coach Matt Lodge told the team, "We're going to go on and win this game. Relax, keep playing the way we play."
In the 59th minute, Roberson struck again for the game-winner, with Hardy and Megan Wilson providing the assists. The Racers secured their fourth come-from-behind victory of the season.
"We knew it was going to be kind of a marathon," Lodge said. "Not a sprint kind of game. We had to be patient."
Roberson's multi-goal outing followed Hardy's standout performance Thursday against Evansville, marking the first time two Racers have scored multiple goals in consecutive matches since Lilly Strader and Chloe Barnthouse in 2021.
Hardy's two-assist night also made her the first Racer this season to record multiple assists in a single match.
Murray State (8-4-4, 3-1-3 MVC) took 12 shots, putting five on target, with four different Racers recording multiple attempts.
"I'm really proud of this team," Lodge said. "We went down 1-0, and we didn't fluster. We didn't go away from the game plan."
The Racers continue their road trip Sunday, Oct. 26, at Valparaiso. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
