TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Murray State Racers capped off their regular-season slate with a 2-0 win over Indiana State on Thursday, securing their fifth consecutive victory.
The Racers (10-4-4, 5-1-3 MVC) struck early, as senior captain Megan Wilson buried a penalty kick in the ninth minute.
Wilson's goal made her the seventh Racer with multiple goals this season, the most Murray State has had in a single year since 2021, when nine different players scored at least twice.
Ava Roberson doubled the lead in the 39th minute with her fourth goal of the season off a Katie Donoghue assist. Roberson now has three goals in her last three matches.
Murray State's defense held firm in the first half, limiting Indiana State (8-5-6, 4-2-3 MVC) to just two total shots, neither of them on target. The Sycamores finished with nine shots overall, putting only two on goal.
"I was kind of concerned I was going to walk in the locker room at halftime and they would be celebrating," head coach Matt Lodge said. "I went in there, and they were focused. They were pragmatic on the second half."
The Racers finished with 10 shots, placing eight on goal. Their .800 shots-on-goal percentage was the highest in a single match since Oct. 18, 2022, against Valparaiso.
Goalkeeper Griselda Revolorio recorded two saves for the Racers' eighth shutout of the season, the program's most in a single year since 2017, when MSU shut out 10 opponents.
The Racers closed the regular season in second place in the Missouri Valley Conference, earning a first-round bye in the MVC Tournament. Murray State's 10 wins are the most wins in a single season since 2019 when the Racers went 11-8.
"I couldn't be happier for this group. They never flustered, they never panicked," Lodge said. "I have to give a lot of credit to the players, but I also have to look at Brad Wilson. He's prepared this team so well in his scouts and sessions, getting them ready. Emily Kelly with our goalkeepers and Gigi. All the credit goes to my staff and my players. I'm just so happy I get to work with them day in and day out."
Murray State will face the winner of Indiana State vs. UIC on Thursday, Nov. 6, at Cutchin Field.
