Racers Fall in Straight Sets to Second-Place Beacons

The Murray State Racers fell to the Valparaiso Beacons 3-0 on Saturday night at Racer Arena in Murray, Kentucky. Â
The Racers (4-19, 2-12 MVC) remain at the bottom of the Missouri Valley Conference standings, while the Beacons (20-7, 11-3 MVC) sit in second, three games behind top-seeded UNI.Â
The Beacons came out swinging in the first set, winning 25-13 while hitting .419 and tallying 16 kills. They remained in control throughout the second set on their way to a 25-20 win that put the Beacons ahead 2-0. The Racers swung back in the third set, jumping out to an early 4-1 lead. However, the Beacons battled through a tight set to claim a 25-20 win to clinch the match. Â
Ella Vogel totaled 13 kills on the night, moving her into fifth all-time in kills at Murray State, tying Jill Doty's career mark of 1276. Paige Brock led the Racers with 21 assists, while Federica Nuccio and Samantha Nelson had seven digs each to lead the team. Morgan McClure led the Racers with three blocks.Â
Sam Warren led the Beacons with 15 kills, and Ava Helming added 13 while Addy Kois put up 21 assists and Emma Hickey added 14 digs. Â
The Racers will wrap up the 2025 regular season with a pair of home matches. They host the Belmont Bruins on Thursday, Nov. 13, at 6 p.m. CT and the Northern Iowa Panthers on Friday, Nov. 14, at 6 p.m. CT. Both matches will be broadcast on ESPN+.
