Project to begin following 2026 season thanks to lead $1 million cash gift from Jim & Sue Cash
Murray State Athletics has officially unveiled its plan for the future home of Racer baseball after the Murray State University Board of Regents approved the construction of the Jim & Sue Cash Baseball Clubhouse during their December meeting on Friday.
Â
The project was made possible thanks to the Jim and Sue Cash's transformational $1 million cash gift, which has secured the naming right for the clubhouse. A formal groundbreaking ceremony was held following the clubhouse's approval at the board meeting.
Â
"This is a transformational day for Murray State Athletics and our baseball program, and we are thrilled to officially unveil the Jim & Sue Cash Baseball Clubhouse facility for our student-athletes, coaches and staff," Murray State University President Dr. Ron Patterson said. "The facility will add a new element to our university skyline, and we are greatly anticipating the start of this project."
Â
The Jim & Sue Cash Baseball Clubhouse is a more than 3,000-square foot baseball facility that features a new locker room, player lounge, team meeting room, and training room right behind the right field wall at Johnny Reagan Field.
Â
"As a long-time supporter of the Murray State Baseball program, I am ecstatic for this highly-anticipated project to begin," Murray State University Board of Regents Chair Dr. Robbie Fitch said. "The Jim & Sue Cash Baseball Clubhouse will be a crown jewel for Coach Skirka to recruit to, and we are all excited to see the continued facility progress made around Johnny Reagan Field and other athletics facilities in the coming future."
Â
Attached to the clubhouse will be a new pitching lab, along with a new outdoor hitting facility and bullpen, giving Racer student-athletes easy access to skill development tools in a centralized location. Premium opportunities will be built facing the field in front of the clubhouse, the first premium experience for fans at the ballpark.Â
Â
Additional projects around Johnny Reagan Field that have been completed include a new scoreboard, a brand-new outfield wall, and new drainage throughout the playing surface. A new videoboard, which stands to be one of the largest, baseball-specific boards in the country, will be installed ahead of the 2026 season.
Â
"We are laser focused on our plans to leverage the momentum of our historic run to the Men's College World Series, and this facility will continue to elevate our baseball program as a national brand," Director of Athletics Nico Yantko said. "This donor-funded facility will serve our current student-athletes as we look to defend our MVC titles, but will be a gamechanger in the recruiting space for future generations. We are so thankful for the Cash family and everyone who has played a role in getting this project started, and we are looking forward to its completion ahead of the 2027 season."
Â
Since 2022, the Racers have made significant investment into the baseball program that has amounted to nearly eight figures worth of donor support that helped lead to the team's historic postseason run.
Â
Investments have included Alston Academic Incentive, Cost of Attendance and revenue share money for student-athletes, the new indoor hitting facility in Roy Stewart Stadium, and updates to the weight room and training room, while upcoming projects include a new outfield wall, new videoboard and scoreboard, and more.
Â
"I am beyond grateful to the Board of Regents, President Patterson, Nico Yantko and Jim and Sue Cash for making this facility a reality," head baseball coach Dan Skirka said. "This clubhouse is a massive commitment to our players, our alumni, and the future of Racer Baseball and will give our student-athletes every opportunity to grow, develop, and prepare at the highest level. Our new home is something we have dreamed about for a long time, and we are incredibly fortunate that that dream has now come true."
Â
In 2025, the baseball team made history by advancing the Men's College World Series in Omaha for the first time in school history, winning two Missouri Valley Conference titles, the Oxford Regional, and the Durham Super Regional title along the way.
