Racers Split Friday Twin Bill with Braves

Game Three to be Played Sunday
Murray State softball split a doubleheader against Bradley at Racer Field in Murray, Kentucky on Friday, winning the first game 4-3 and losing the second 5-2
The Racers (9-13, 1-2 MVC) went down early in game one against the Braves (10-15, 1-1 MVC). Kierston McCoy put the Braves ahead in the first inning with a two-RBI home run to left field.
Neither team was able to score again until the Racers got hot in the fourth inning. Summer Ray broke the drought for Murray State, sending Erin Lackey home on an RBI bunt single. Courtney Sandy then scored on a passed ball before Ray scored via a fielder's choice from Katy Huels and Taylor Franzen scored on a play that saw Parker Holcombe reach on an error. Â
Leading 4-2, the Racers only allowed one more run to Bradley on an RBI single by Abbot Badgly in the sixth, making the final score 4-3. Â
Bre Haislisp (4-6) pitched all seven innings and got the win. Haislip allowed five hits and three earned runs while striking out three. Ailey Schyck led the team with three hits while Katy Huels and Summer Ray each had a hit and an RBI.  Â
Sydney Kennedy (5-8) took the loss in the circle. Kierston McCoy led the Braves with two hits and a pair of RBI. Â
Game two got off to a slow start as neither team was able to score until the third inning when the Braves put up three runs. Â
They got started when Ella Shafer scored on a wild pitch and Olivia Turner added another two with an RBI double to left center that put Bradley ahead 3-0. Â
Bradley added one more in the fifth before the Racers were able to respond when Kate Huels scored on Kenley Minor's first double of the game to make it 4-1. Sydney Kennedy increased the Bradley lead to 5-1 with an RBI single up the middle in the.
Needing four runs to stay alive in the final inning, the Racers looked to be on the rally as Kenley Minor scored on an Erin Lackey RBI single after reaching on her second double of the evening. Ailey Schick followed that up with another single, however, the Racers were unable to add another run, falling 5-2.Â
Karley Graber (2-4) started in the circle for the Racers and pitched four innings, allowing three hits and three earned runs, and taking the loss. Hannah Organ (3-5) took the win in the circle for Bradley.
Kenley Minor led the Racers with two hits, both doubles, and posted one RBI. Ailey Schyck also had two hits, while Erin Lackey put up a hit and an RBI. Ava Ozment and Taylor Franzen recorded hits as well. Â
The Racers will close out their series against Bradley on Sunday, with first pitch being scheduled for 12 p.m. CT. Â
