Racers Split Saturday Doubleheader with Evansville

Murray State splits Saturday’s doubleheader with Evansville to close first series of MVC play.
The Murray State Baseball team (14-6, 1-2 MVC) split a doubleheader with Evansville (7-16, 2-1 MVC) on Saturday at Johnny Reagan Field, in Murray, Kentucky.
Game 1
Murray State dropped the opening game of Saturday's doubleheader 15-10.
Will Vierling extended his team lead in home runs to seven with a first inning solo home run and Dan Tauken drove in six runs. Four of Taukens RBIs came on a fifth inning grand slam which gave the Racers a 6-3 lead.
The Racers lost the lead in the seventh as Evansville rallied to score 11 runs in the seventh and eighth innings combined.
Murray State rallied for five runs in the bottom of the eighth but came up short 15-10.
Game 2
In game two, Murray State defeated Evansville 9-5.
The Racers struck first on a first inning Carson Garner RBI triple.
Tauken added his second homer of the day, a three-run shot in the third.
The Racers scored five more runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 9-2 lead.
Dylan Zentko earned the win for the Racers as the left-hander tossed 4.2 innings with seven strikeouts.
The Racers travel to Normal, to face Illinois State in their second series of Missouri Valley Conference play. Each game of the MVC series will stream live on ESPN+.

- Dustin Mercer and Will Vierling extended their respective on base streaks to 20 and 17 games. Mercer has also hit safely in his last 12 games.
- With his four hits across Saturday's doubleheader, Mercer is two hits away from reaching 200 in his career at Murray State.
- Mercer is also one RBI away from 100 in his career with the Racers.
- Nic Schutte struck out eight batters through six innings in game one of the doubleheader.
- Luke Mistone reached base four times in Saturday's game two with three walks and a hit by pitch.
- Jonathan Hogart is now four hits away from 100 at Murray State.
- Dan Tauken's three hits for the weekend bring him to 90 career hits as a Racer.
