Racers Return for Friday Double Header

The Murray State Racers (10-19, 1-8 MVC) fell to the Missouri State Bears (9-21, 7-2 MVC) 3-2 on Thursday at Racer Field in Murray, Ky.

The game was a pitching duel through the early innings, with neither team scoring until the sixth inning. The Bears were the first to break the tie as Sofia King scored on a fielder's choice. Parker Holcombe delivered the tying run in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single to right field that sent Bailey Broemmer home, making the game 1-1.

Riley Baber put the Bears ahead once again in the seventh with a single through the right side that scored two runs.

Hannah Sutton added one run in the final inning for the Racers as she slid into home after a passed ball, but the Racers could not score again, falling 3-2.

The Navy & Gold out-hit the Bears 10-4 and both teams committed one error.

Katy Huels went 3-4 at the plate and led the Racers in hits while Ailey Schyck and Hannah Sutton put up two each. Kenley Minor, Parker Holcombe, and Riley Jestadt each had one with Holcombe being responsible for the Racers' lone RBI.

Bre Haislip (4-10) went the distance on the mound for the Racers, allowing two earned runs on four hits. The junior collected a pair of strikeouts and walked six in a losing effort.

McKenzie Vaughan (6-5) got the win in the circle, pitching six and one-third innings and allowing just one earned run. Four different Missouri State players recorded a hit and Riley Baber led the team with two RBI.

Murray State and Missouri State return to Racer Field tomorrow for a doubleheader with the first game scheduled for 3:00 p.m. CT. The second game will follow at approximately 5:30 p.m. CT. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+ with Harold Houston on the call.
