Racers to Host Missouri State For MVC Series

The Murray State Racers (10-18, 1-7 MVC) will host the Missouri State Bears (7-21, 6-2 MVC) for a Missouri Valley Conference series at Racer Field in Murray, Ky.Â
Thursday will mark the tenth all-time meeting between the two programs, with the Bears leading the series 5-4. The last matchup between the two programs was on Saturday, March 30 in Springfield, Mo. with the Bears winning 2-0.Â
The Racers remain ninth in the MVC standings, while the Bears are in fifth. Murray State snapped a six-game losing streak in a win over UT Martin on Wednesday, beating the Skyhawks 5-1. Meanwhile, the Bears are winners of four straight after Wednesday's 9-1 victory over Kansas City.
The Navy & Gold are batting .240 on the season with 167 hits, 104 RBI, 46 extra-base hits, and eleven home runs. The Bears are hitting .267 with 197 hits, 32 extra-base hits, and 15 home runs. The Racers and Bears are 10th and 11th in the MVC with team ERAs of 4.15 and 5.93, respectively. Murray State pitchers have allowed 106 earned runs while the staff at Missouri State have allowed 147.Â
Ailey Schyck leads the Racers with a .297 batting average and is fourth in the MVC with seven home runs while Erin Lackey leads the team with 19 RBI and 16 walks. Kenley Minor leads the way with 25 hits and six stolen bases and is tied for fourth in the MVC with two triples. Â
Bre Haislip (4-9) leads the Racers with a 2.82 ERA, 77 innings pitched, and 45 strikeouts. She closed out the Racers' win over UT Martin with a pair of strikeouts in the final inning. Karlye Graber (3-4) features a 3.29 ERA through 49 innings and has 27 strikeouts. The freshman allowed just one earned run through six and a third with five strikeouts in Wednesday's win. Â
Taylor Akers leads the Bears with 27 hits, 25 RBI, six home runs, and a .307 batting average, fourth best in the MVC. McKenzie Vaughan (5-5) has a team-low ERA of 4.00 while Makenzi Swick (1-7) leads the team with 30 strikeouts and features an ERA of 5 .74.
Following the series, the Racers will host Belmont on Tuesday, April 1 at 3:30 p.m. CT to wrap up their non-consecutive MVC series. Â
