The transfer from Central Arkansas joins new Murray State Coach Ryan Miller as a sophomore
Murray State head men's basketball head coach Ryan Miller announced the signing of 5-11 guard Layne Taylor who joins the Racers for the 2025-26 season as a sophomore.
Out of Farmington, Arkansas, Taylor played his freshman season at Central Arkansas in 2024-25 and was named to the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Freshman Team.
Â
Layne Taylor, played for his father, Johnny Taylor, at Farmington High School where he compiled more than 450 wins and a pair of Arkansas State Championships. Layne brings a tremendous basketball IQ and personal drive to Murray State.
Â
"Layne's talent and character are a perfect fit for our program," said Coach Ryan Miller. "His father's coaching gave him a unique edge—an understanding of the game that sets him apart. We're excited to see him carry that legacy forward as a Racer."
Â
Taylor played in 20 games as a freshman, all starts, and led Central Arkansas in scoring at 17.4 points per game, while dishing out 73 assists against only 33 turnovers. He made a team-leading 64 3-pointers and was an 89 percent shooter from the free throw line.
Â
With six games of scoring 20 or more points, Taylor had a two-game run that included 27 and 29 points against Bellarmine and Eastern Kentucky (Jan. 2 & 4). When he added 10 assists in the EKU game, Taylor had his first career double-double.
Â
Taylor became the No. 3 all-time scorer in Arkansas high school history with 3,372 points. As a senior in 2023-24, he was the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette All-Arkansas Preps Player of the Year. He helped Farmington to a record of 124-12 in his four seasons and was a four-time All-State selection.
