The Murray State Men's Cross Country team competed at the Oscar Moore Invitational hosted by Southern Illinois on Friday evening in Carbondale.
Dylan Ellis came home with an 18th place finish to lead the Racers in the 8K race.
"We have been working on pack running and felt that this meet was the perfect opportunity to try it out in a race," Coach Jordan Johnston said. "The 8K can be an intimidating distance for younger athletes and having someone there with you through the first half makes it feel more manageable. The men did a great job of this and were able to walk away with valuable insight into where their current fitness is and how to adjust their strategy for Louisville in two weeks. For Dylan Ellis, our top returner from last year, he ran the most even race and I know he can handle going out faster in two weeks. I think the first half of the race was a good sweet spot for the rest of the guys and now we will continue to work on the back half throughout the rest of the season. I think that Tedi handled his first ever 8K very well so I'm happy with his race."
The next challenge for the Racers is the Louisville Classic at Tom Sawyer Park (Oct. 4).
