The Racers went 21-7 in singles and doubles play as the MVC gathered in Normal, Ill.
The Murray State women's tennis team racked up several outstanding performances over the weekend in winning 21-of-28 matches at the Redbird Invitational in Normal, Illinois.
The event brought together every Missouri Valley Conference women's tennis team and the Racers showed that they are on the right track to compete for their third-straight regular season league championship in April 2026.
Â
The Racers won two of the four doubles brackets, four of seven in singles and claimed first place in six of the 11 events overall at the
Gregory Street Tennis Courts at ISU.
Â
Among the highlights were Varvara Alexeyeva/Barbora Hermanova taking the title of Flight-1 doubles and Rebecca Widan/Molly Null in Flight-4.
Â
MSU's four winners in singles play came from Valeria Chaikovskaia (Flight-1), Alexeyeva (Flight-2), Sofia Issakova (Flight-3) and Yu Kikawa (Flight-4).
Â
"The team did a fantastic job this weekend not only on court but also off the court," said MSU Head Coach Jorge Caetano. "They played for each other and with each other and I truly believe that made the difference allowing us to win more than half of the titles against the other MVC schools. We are still learning a lot of things about ourselves, but these results give us extra motivation to continue to work hard so we can achieve our goals in the spring."
Next up for the Racers is an appearance at the Lipscomb Invitational (Oct. 4-5) at Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center.
