
Racers Split Friday Matches at Billiken Invitational

Racers return Saturday for second match against Austin Peay.
Murray State Volleyball (2-3, 0-0 MVC) split a pair of matches against Western Illinois (1-4) and Saint Louis (3-1) on Friday in St. Louis, Mo.
The Racers started the day as winners in a 10 a.m. CT match against the Western Illinois Leathernecks that went to five sets. Murray State dropped the first set, falling 25-20 despite having more kills 13-11. They rebounded in the second set, winning by the same score and ending the set with a pair of blocks from Lily Burnett and Burch Gulomur. After dropping the third set 25-19, they rebounded again to win the fourth 26-24, forcing a pivotal fifth set.
The Navy & Gold took off in the fifth set, hitting .429 and winning 15-12 to clinch the match. Â
Paige Brock set a career high with 46 assists and added four digs and three blocks. Ella Vogel led all players with 17 digs and added 14 digs for her third double-double of the season. Mija Pristovnik set career highs with 15 kills and 11 digs, while Lily Burnett added a season high 14 kills and three aces. Burcu Gulomur led the team with 8 blocks, while Bailey Keusch added 13 digs and Halle Forester had 10.Â
Keyana Cruse led the Leathernecks with 15 kills and 22 digs while Jaleah Blauss added 22 assists.Â
The Racers lost to the Saint Louis Billikens in the second game of the day in straight sets. They dropped the first set 25-19 after a 10-3 run by the Billikens before falling 25-16 in the second and 25-12 in the final set.Â
The Racers were led by Ella Vogel and Mija Pristovnik with seven kills each. Paige Brock led the Racers in assists with 13, while Bailey Keusch put up seven digs. Â
Ellie Rink led Saint Louis with 14 kills, while Jetta Brenning put up 31 assists. Â
The Racers return Saturday for an 11 a.m. CT match against the Austin Peay Governors (0-5) in St. Louis, Mo. The Racers previously beat Austin Peay 3-1 in their season opener in Clarksville, Tenn. Â
