Sharnecce Currie-Jelks has been named MVC Newcomer of the Week following a dominant stretch of games

ST. LOUIS – Murray State forward Sharnecce Currie-Jelks has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week following a dominant stretch that propelled the Racers to a 3-0 start in conference play.
The junior averaged 21.3 points and 18.7 rebounds over three games. Currie-Jelks opened the week with 19 points and 14 rebounds in a 90-80 road victory over Evansville on Dec. 29. Returning home, she delivered a historic performance in a 101-93 double-overtime thriller against Illinois State on Jan. 2, recording 21 points, 22 rebounds, and five blocks.
She capped the week on Jan. 4 by matching those totals in another double-overtime win, scoring 24 points and grabbing 20 rebounds against Bradley. Currie-Jelks shot a combined 29-of-47 (61.7%) from the floor during the span.
The Racers (12-2, 3-0 MVC) continue their season on Friday when they host Northern Iowa.
