Racer Shut Out Phoenix on Day One of Velvet Milkman Classic

Murray State returns Friday against South Dakota State and North Dakota.
Murray State Softball (5-6) picked up its first home win of the 2026 season, 4-0, against the Green Bay Phoenix (0-8) on Thursday afternoon at Racer Field in Murray, Kentucky.Â
The game got off to a quiet start, as neither team was able to put a run on the board through the first three innings. Allie Waldron scored the first run for Murray State in the fourth inning, reaching home on a bunt by Adison Hicks. Bailey Broemmer added to the lead by stealing home later in the same inning.Â
The Racers tacked on two more in the following inning as Waldron got back to work with a two-RBI double that pushed the lead to 4-0.Â
The Phoenix were unable to put up a run in either of the final two innings, sealing a 4-0 win for the Racers.Â
Hailey Brereton (1-3) and Karlye Graber (2-1) put together a combined shutout in the circle. Brereton got the start, pitching 1 2/3 innings, tallying a pair of strikeouts, and allowing just two hits. Graber got the win in relief after pitching 5 1/3 innings and tallying three strikeouts with just three hits allowed.
Katy Huels went 2 for three at the plate with a run scored, while Allie Waldron went 1 for 1 with a pair of walks and a pair of RBI. Adison Hicks tallied a hit and an RBI, while Kynadee Warner, Bailey Broemmer, Riley Jestadt, and Reagan Towns each had hits as well.Â
The Racers return to action at the Velvet Milkman Classic on Friday, facing South Dakota State at 3 p.m. CT and North Dakota at 5:30 p.m. CT.
