Racers Fall to Fighting Hawks in Extra Innings Pitching Duel

Murray State Unable to Overcome North Dakota Pitching

The Murray State Racers (6-8) fell to the North Dakota Fighting Hawks (8-7) 3-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Velvet Milkman Classic in Murray, Kentucky.

After neither team was able to score in the opening inning, the Fighting Hawks got on the board first, scoring on an error in the second inning. The Racers answered in the third as Adison Hicks singled down the left-field line, scoring Kynadee Warner.

Despite the Racers having runners in scoring position in the fourth, sixth, and seventh innings, the 1-1 tie held into the eighth inning when the Fighting Hawks got back in front with an RBI single up the middle by Hailey Bethune. However, the Racers equalized yet again as Lily Wolf escaped a rundown to score on an error and make it 2-2.

In the ninth inning, Jaedyn Valdez put North Dakota back in front with an RBI single. This time, the Racers were unable to score, and the Fighting Hawks escaped with the win.

Kynadee Warner went 3-for-4 at the plate and walked once. Katy Huels, Adison Hicks, and Ailey Schyck each recorded a hit, with Hicks recording one RBI.

Bre Haislip (2-1) pitched eight innings, allowing seven hits and striking out two. Karlye Graber pitched one inning in relief.

Unity Nelson (3-2) got the win in the circle for North Dakota.

The Racers return to action at the John Cropp Classic in Lexington, Kentucky, from Feb. 27 to March 1.
