Racers Win Two on Sunday at Stinger Classic

Murray State Defeats Southern Indiana and Alabama State
The Murray State Racers (3-2) swept a pair of Sunday games at the Stinger Classic in Montgomery, Alabama.
Game 1
The Racers played the Screaming Eagles of Southern Indiana (0-3) in the opening game of the day and got the scoring going early. In the first inning, Allie Waldron reached first on an error that allowed Kynadee Warner to score and secure the early 1-0 lead. They kept it going in the second as Kenley Minor slid into home after a dropped ball by the catcher, and Katy Huels scored Bailey Broemmer on an RBI single to push the lead to 3-0.
The Screaming Eagles fought back in the third inning as Caroline Stapleton put them on the board with an RBI single before scoring on a fly by Sydney Long to make it 3-2.
The Racers got on the board again in the fifth as Ava Ozment reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Katy Huels and increasing the lead to 4-2. USI looked to challenge in the sixth inning with a Kate Satkoski home run; however, the Racers answered right back in the bottom of the inning as Bailey Broemmer scored on an error to make it 5-3. In the final inning, Karlye Graber slammed the door as the reliever delivered a looking strikeout to end the game.
Bailey Broemmer went 2-3 at the plate with a pair of runs scored. Katy Huels went 1-3 with a walk and an RBI, while Kenley Minor and Kynadee Warner each had one hit.
Karlye Graber (1-1) got the win in relief, pitching three and two-thirds innings and allowing just one earned run. Emily Suirek got the start in the circle and pitched three and one-third innings, striking out five, allowing two earned runs, and walking two.
Game 2
The Racers faced off against the host Alabama State Hornets (1-3) in the final Stinger Classic game and jumped ahead early. The scoring started in the second inning when Reagan Towns reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Lily Wolf. Katy Huels drew a walk to score the second run of the game before Kynadee Warner sent Bailey Broemmer home with a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0.
Allie Waldron woke up the bats again in the third inning as the freshman catcher fired a solo home run deep over the right-field fence. Katy Huels scored another run for the Racers in the fourth before Waldron stepped to the plate again. The St. Louis native blasted yet another deep home run to right field, this one scoring two runs to push the lead to 7-0.
The Hornets tacked on a pair of runs in the fifth inning to cut the lead to 7-2 before the Racers got right back to work in the sixth. Allie Waldron lit up the scoreboard yet again with an RBI double that scored Adison Hicks, and Ava Ozment sent Waldron home with an RBI double of her own, making the final score 9-2.
Hailey Brereton started in the circle and picked up her first career win after pitching five innings and striking out two while allowing a pair of earned runs. Raylee Roby pitched two scoreless innings, struck out one, and walked one.
Four different Racers had multiple hits on the day as Allie Waldron went 3-4 with four RBI and three runs scored, Kynadee Warner went 3-3 with an RBI, Bailey Broemmer went 2-2 and drew one walk, and Ava Ozment went 2-3 with an RBI. Katy Huels went 1-4 with an RBI while Adison Hicks, Lily Wolf, and Kenley Minor each had a hit.
The Racers now turn their attention to the Snowman-Alex Wilcox Memorial Tournament in Starkville, Mississippi, from Feb. 13-15.
