Murray State beats Valparaiso in weekend series 2-1.
The Murray State Racers (11-13, 3-2 MVC) defeated the Valparaiso Beacons (10-14, 1-4 MVC) 2-0 in a Saturday afternoon rubber match at Racer Field in Murray, Kentucky.
With the win, the Racers improve to 3-2 in the Missouri Valley Conference and fifth in the conference. Meanwhile, Valparaiso falls to eighth.
The game was a defensive battle from beginning to end, with solid pitching from both sides and the wind making it difficult for the ball to leave the yard.
Neither team was able to get on the board until Kynadee Warner broke the tie with an RBI single up the middle in the third inning that scored Adison Hicks. The stalemate continued into the sixth inning before Kenley Minor gave the Racers some insurance with an RBI single of her own to right-center, scoring Warner and giving the Racers a 2-0 lead.
Despite outhitting Murray State 7-5, the Beacons could not score a run on the day, leaving seven runners on base. The Racers left six on base, struck out four times, and walked once.
Karlye Graber (5-4) went the distance in the circle and got the win, allowing seven hits and striking out two while walking just one.
Kynadee Warner had another productive day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Allie Waldron, Kenley Minor, and Parker Holcombe each had one hit, with Minor notching an RBI. Adison Hicks recorded a walk and a run scored.
The Racers are back in action on Tuesday, March 17, at Racer Field against Eastern Illinois.
