Racers Drop Two in Evansville

Series Finale set for Saturday
The Murray State Racers (11-15, 3-4 MVC) dropped a pair of games in a Friday doubleheader against the Evansville Purple Aces (11-16, 5-5 MVC) in Evansville, Indiana.
Game 1: Evansville 3, Murray State 0
The opening matchup of the series was a pitching duel throughout the early innings, as neither team was able to score in the first four innings.
Bre Haislip pitched 4 1/3 innings for the Racers, striking out five and retiring eight batters in a row. However, the Aces got on the board in the fifth with a two-run homer.
Evansville pushed the lead to 3-0 in the sixth with a solo home run, and the Racers were unable to score in the closing innings.
The Racers were outhit 7-6, neither team recorded an error, and both left seven on base.
Haislip ended the day having allowed four hits and a pair of earned runs, while reliever Karlye Graber allowed three hits and one earned run and struck out one in 1 2/3 innings of work.
Ava Ozment went 2-for-3 at the plate, while Katy Huels, Kynadee Warner, Allie Waldron, and Parker Holcombe each had one hit. Warner and Holcombe had one stolen base each.
Game 2: Evansville 6, Murray State 5
Evansville jumped in front early in the second game, putting up five runs in the opening inning.
After Bre Haislip entered the game in relief for Murray State, the second game looked to be yet another pitching duel. Neither team was able to plate another run until the fifth inning, when Bailey Broemmer scored on a sacrifice fly by Parker Holcombe.
After a scoreless sixth, the Racers rallied in the seventh. After a leadoff double by Allie Waldron, Bailey Broemmer sent the freshman home with a double of her own. Parker Holcombe added another run for the Racers by scoring Broemmer for the second time in the game, this time with a single. Following a double by Kenley Minor, Ailey Schyck tied the game 5-5 with an RBI double past the shortstop.
The Aces won the game and clinched the series in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI double, making the final score 6-5.
Bre Haislip (3-5) was saddled with her second loss of the day after pitching six innings in relief, allowing just one run and four hits while striking out two. Karlye Graber got the start and pitched 1/3 of an inning, allowing three runs, and Emily Siurek allowed two in 1/3 of an inning.
Bailey Broemmer went 2-for-3 at the plate with one RBI and a stolen base. Ailey Schyck and Parker Holcombe each had a hit and a pair of RBI, while Kynadee Warner put up two hits, and Kenley Minor had one.
