Murray State Defeats Evansville 3-1

The Murray State Racers (12-15, 4-4 MVC) defeated the Evansville Purple Aces (11-17, 5-6 MVC) 3-1 in the final game of a weekend series in Evansville, Indiana.

With the win, the Racers are sixth in the Missouri Valley Conference standings, while Evansville is in seventh.

The Purple Aces got on the board first, scoring on a bases-loaded walk in the opening inning. However, the Racers were able to stop the bleeding as reliever Bre Haislip ended the inning with her first strikeout of the afternoon.

Murray State responded in the second inning with a pair of runs. Kenley Minor got the Racers on the board by stealing home before Kynadee Warner drove in Katy Huels with a single to right-center. They increased the lead in the third as Parker Holcombe scored Bailey Broemmer with a single to left-center that made it 3-1.

Neither team was able to add another run for the remainder of the afternoon, as both teams benefited from solid outings from their relief pitchers.

Bre Haislip (4-5) ended the day for the Racers, pitching 6 1/3 innings and allowing just one hit. The senior issued one walk and struck out three.

Parker Holcombe went 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI and drew a pair of walks. Allie Waldron went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, while Kynadee Warner went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Kenley Minor went 1-for-4 and scored a run by stealing home, and Katy Huels added a stolen base of her own.

The Racers outhit the Aces 8-2, left 12 runners on base, and did not commit an error, while Evansville committed one.

The Racers return on Tuesday, March 24, for a midweek doubleheader in Nashville, Tennessee, against the Belmont Bruins. First pitch of Game 1 is scheduled for 1 p.m. CDT, with Game 2 to follow. They will return home the following day to host Austin Peay at Racer Field at 3 p.m. CDT.
