PEORIA, Ill. – The Racers opened their second weekend of MVC play with a barnburner, taking down Bradley 18-10. Today's win gave Murray State a 4-0 start to conference action.
After Bradley (5-10, 1-4 MVC) jumped out to a 4-0 lead early, the Racers bats came alive in the second inning forward, scoring a run in each of the last seven innings.
Murray State (17-9, 4-0 MVC) took advantage of six BU errors throughout the game, with eight of their runs scored coming unearned.
Every batter in the MSU lineup recorded at least one hit, with four knocking multiple in today's contest. Kainen Jorge lead the Racers with three hits on the day, with Connor Chisolm, Kristofer Hokenson, and Colby Ott each notching two.
Chisolm and Conner Cunningham each had three RBI on the day, with Parker Airhart and Luke Mistone following behind with two apiece.
The 28 total runs scored today is the most in a single game in a matchup between the two programs.
How it Happened
Bradley jumped out to a quick lead, tagging Murray State starter Nic Schutte for three runs in the first inning and another in the second to build a 4-0 advantage. The Racers began their comeback in the third when Chisolm launched a solo home run to right field. After the Braves added a run in the bottom of the third, Chisolm struck again in the fourth with a two-run single that scored Parker Airhart and Colby Ott, cutting the deficit to 5-3.
The momentum shifted completely in the fifth inning. Daylan Pena sparked the rally with an RBI double, followed by a Parker Airhart RBI single to bring the Racers within one. In a high-stakes moment, Airhart drew a throw on a stolen base attempt at second, allowing Pena to swipe home and tie the game at 6-6.
The Racers took control for good with a five-run sixth inning. Luke Mistone and Jorge delivered back-to-back RBI singles to take the lead, and Murray State took advantage of two Bradley errors in the frame to extend the cushion to 11-6.
Though the Braves managed to pull within three in the bottom of the sixth, Murray State answered with two in the seventh and a four-run explosion in the eighth. Conner Cunningham provided the exclamation point in the eighth with a two-run single to right field. Colby Ott added an RBI single in the ninth to cap the scoring at 18.
