Murray State Improves to 16-18

The Murray State Racers (16-18, 7-6 MVC) defeated the UT Martin Skyhawks (22-17, 10-4 OVC) 4-3 in 10 innings on Tuesday evening in Martin, Tennessee.

The Racers fell behind early as the Skyhawks tallied a pair of runs in the second inning on a solo home run and an RBI double. They added one more in the third on a wild pitch to take a 3-0 lead.

The Navy & Gold responded in the top of the fourth as Bailey Broemmer fired a two-run shot before Katy Huels scored on an error to tie the game.

The game remained deadlocked from then on as neither team could capitalize with runners on base in the closing innings, sending the game into extras. After a scoreless eighth and ninth, Kenley Minor led off the 10th inning with a deep solo shot to right field, finally breaking the tie with her first hit of the game. The Skyhawks managed to get two runners on base in the bottom of the inning, but could not capitalize yet again.

The Racers finished the day with four runs on seven hits, committed three errors, and left 10 runners on base, while the Skyhawks put up three runs on 11 hits, committed five errors, and stranded 15 runners.

Bre Haislip (8-5) went the distance for the win, pitching 10 complete innings and striking out nine Skyhawk batters. The senior allowed 11 hits and just two earned runs.

Bailey Broemmer went 1-for-4 at the plate with a two-RBI home run, Kenley Minor went 1-for-5 with a solo home run, and Riley Jestadt went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Kynadee Warner, Adison Hicks, Allie Waldron, and Katy Huels each had one hit.

The Racers return home to host the Bradley Braves for a Missouri Valley Conference series at Racer Field. Friday's doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. CDT before the series wraps up on Saturday at 1 p.m. CDT.
