MURRAY, Ky. – Murray State baseball dropped its fifth consecutive game Friday, falling 3-2 to Indiana State in the series opener at Johnny Reagan Field at Taylor Family Park.

The loss moves the Racers' home record to 5-5.

Kainen Jorge gave the Racers (27-23, 12-7 MVC) an early lead with a two-run home run to center field in the bottom of the first inning. The blast was Jorge's 10th of the 2026 season, making him the first Racer to reach double-digit homers this year.

Indiana State (28-23, 13-6 MVC) answered with two runs in the third to tie the game before taking the lead with an RBI single in the fourth, which proved to be the game-winning run.

Nic Schutte was handed his fifth loss of the season after allowing three runs across six innings of work. Schutte threw a career-high 132 pitches in the contest.

Ben Rosin took the mound for the final three innings, allowing just two hits and striking out three without issuing a walk.

Connor Chisolm was the only Racer to record multiple hits, while Daylan Pena and Conner Cunningham each added doubles. Chisolm extended his hitting streak to six games with his two-hit performance.

Pena's double extended his reached-base streak to 11 games, the longest active streak for the Racers.

Murray State looks to bounce back tomorrow in the second game of the series, with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m. CT.
